Pioneering tech diver and journalist, Michael Menduno, Editor-in-Chief of InDEPTH Journal, is recovering in a Florida hospital after struggling a stroke.

Menduno, also called ‘M2’ launched technical, mixed-gas diving to the scuba diving mainstream within the early Nineteen Nineties by means of his aquaCORPS tech diving journal.

Menduno is credited with inventing the phrase ‘technical diving’, and has gained a number of media awards, together with the OZTEKMedia Excellence Award in 2011, the EUROTek Lifetime Achievement Award in 2012, and the TEKDive USA Media Award in 2018. 

He additionally produced the primary Tek, EUROTek, and ASIATek conferences, and organised Rebreather Boards 1, 2, and most lately, Rebreather Discussion board 4, held in Valletta, Malta in 2023.

He based InDEPTH, the journal of International Underwater Explorers (GUE) with GUE founder and president, Jarrod Jablonski, in 2018.

Menduno additionally writes for DAN Europe and has been an everyday contributor to DAN’s journal, Alert Diver.

Posting on Fb asserting the information, InDEPTH’s Managing Editor, Stratis Kas, wrote:
