Irfan Pathan calls Pakistan’s Shahid Afridi “badtameez insan”, this is why

Over the years, we have seen former Pakistan all-rounder Shahid Afridi spew venom against the Indian players, especially Gautam Gambhir. But it seems, that GG wasn’t the only one on his list. In fact, he went on to make obnoxious comments over Irfan Pathan as well. In an interview with the Lallantop, the Indian revealed, what had kickstarted a rivalry between the two, post which Irfan dismissed him many times.

The 40-year-old said that, in one of the interviews with Harsha Bhogle, Afridi made fun of his ethnicity, which was of course in bad taste, and he did not enjoy it. “I have dismissed Shahid Afridi 11 times in my career.. There was this one interview of his with Harsha Bhogle. He said that ‘I’m a real Pathan, and Irfan is not’. Badtameez aadmi hai,” Irfan Pathan said.

“I got a feeling that he wasn’t talking just about me, but my parents. Had he not said all this, I wouldn’t have any problem with him. But it was wrong to get personal. So, every time I was up against him, I knew I would get rid of him.”

The former ace all-rounder further revealed that post that, they never got to interact on the field, as Afridi would get out in a jiffy, but then spoke once off the field, in a flight, which wasn’t a pleasant interaction either. “I’ve dismissed him on big occasions. Be it series deciders, the World Cup final.. We never really got a chance to interact. He used to get out fairly early too. So we never a got a chance to speak on the field. But I did speak to him on a flight — Karachi to Lahore.

“There too, he came from behind, ruffled my hair and said ‘how are you kid’. There also he did wasn’t great with his choice of words,” the Indian added.
